The 2007 Honduras Coffee Quality and Competitiveness Seminar

2007-11-30

Coffee cupping has become a common practice in many countries such as Japan thanks to the persistent and widespread promotional efforts of the coffee industry. Western countries have highly developed the art of cupping as well.

In order to show Taiwanese coffee drinkers what makes a good brew, experts from the top coffee-producing country of Honduras visited Taiwan to demonstrate the proper way of performing a coffee tasting or “cupping,” in hopes of promoting the practice in the country.

In layman’s terms, coffee cupping entails bringing out the best color, aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel of every sip by controlling coffee brewing factors such as temperature and timing. With a basic grasp of cupping techniques, one can further appreciate the unique set of qualities inherent in beans originating from different countries.
