MOFA applauds Indonesia’s peaceful election

2024/03/25

President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te sent congratulatory messages to Indonesia’s Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka on their electoral success, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Southeast Asian country held elections Feb. 14 and its General Elections Commission announced the official result March 20 after finishing vote tabulation. President-elect Prabowo is currently minister of defense and Vice President-elect Gibran is mayor of Surakarta, the MOFA said.

Both Taiwan and Indonesia highly value democracy and freedom, and both face the challenges of climate change, food security, and the maintenance of resilient supply chains. As such, Taiwan’s government hopes to continue deepening bilateral cooperation with Indonesia in areas such as agriculture, education, labor, medicine, science and technology to jointly uphold a free, open, peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
