MOFA thanks St. Kitts and Nevis for resolution supporting Taiwan

2024/05/07

A resolution adopted by the National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis in support of Taiwan’s international participation is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs May 3.

The resolution, passed the day before, expressed the Caribbean ally’s backing for Taiwan’s bid to join the U.N., Interpol, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and the World Health Organization.

The document stressed the importance of Taiwan’s contributions to international organizations in areas spanning public health, aviation safety and governance, and net-zero carbon emissions, as well as the country’s efforts to combat climate change, COVID-19 and transnational crime, the MOFA said.

The ministry added that the resolution also stated that the National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis values the country’s diplomatic relations with Taiwan and will continue to deepen bilateral partnerships based on the shared values of democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law.

According to the MOFA, the resolution followed a similar one approved by the assembly last year, which demonstrates the two sides’ close friendship. The government will continue to seek engagement in global bodies while working with St. Kitts and Nevis to improve the well-being of both nations’ peoples and reach the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, the ministry said.
