2024/03/13

Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu received Ed Raine, president and CEO of Food for the Poor, March 11 in Taipei City to exchange views on education, food aid and women’s empowerment in Latin America and the Caribbean.

According to the minister, FFTP works closely with the Taipei-based International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) and Taiwan’s representative offices in countries in the region. The  efforts have seen Taiwan implement multiple technical missions in allied nations such as Belize, Guatemala and Haiti to boost economic development.

Through Taiwan’s aid, some of these nations have reached beyond self-sufficiency and now export food, Wu said, adding that Taiwan looks forward to continued collaboration with FFTP to further benefit vulnerable populations around the world, the ministry added.

In response, Raine voiced appreciation for Taiwan’s long-term cooperation and mentioned hopes of jointly creating job opportunities for people in Latin American and the Caribbean to enhance their living conditions.

FFTP is a major U.S. international aid and development organization which has been offering food, education and vocational training to the underprivileged or those living in remote areas for nearly 20 years.
