2010-06-14

Honduras is to record new highs in coffee export in 2010, up to 4.7 million quintals (46 kg each), according to Instituto Honureno del Café (INCAFE) which disclosed when interviewed yesterday. Statistics indicate that during the period starting from October 2009(when the coup (d'etat) ended up) till June 8, 2010, the total coffee export volume was up to 3.37 million quintals, growing by 73% over the corresponding period of the preceding year. The Tropic Storm Agatha of May 2010 damaged somewhat Guatemala, the arch rival of Honduras in coffee export. Meanwhile, amidst the upturn of the world economy, Honduras anticipates to hit 4.7 million quintals in coffee export which is believed a piece of cake. Since 1999, Honduras exported coffee at the peak during 2007~2008, up to 4.4 million quintals.
