Organized by the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration, this year’s competition saw a record 2,348 entries battle it out for three cash prizes totaling NT$60,000 (US$1,830).
After a final round of judging by scholars and photography experts, Wen Shao-liang claimed first place for a picture of a concert held at twilight in Yehliu Geopark.
The judges commended the piece for its “rich composition, robust vitality and masterful use of light and shadow to accentuate the geological wonders of Yehliu.”

Yu Mei-man, meanwhile, earned the third prize for spotlighting the beauty of a submerged coastal terrace covered with moss at Heping Island in Keelung City.
In addition to the three photos, 35 and 55 other submissions were selected for merits awards and honorable mentions, respectively.
According to the organizer, the winners will be honored Nov. 25 in Taipei City, while 93 photographs from the competition will be on display Nov. 30 to Dec. 10 in the main concourse of Taipei Main Station.
