ROC ramps up Productivity 4.0 promotion

2015/10/26

A major project promoting Productivity 4.0 was unveiled by Premier Mao Chi-kuo Oct. 22 in Taipei City, underscoring government efforts in ensuring Taiwan remains a front-runner in the fourth industrial revolution.

“We are committed to building the necessary infrastructure and environment fostering talent cultivation and development of key technologies in this regard,” Mao said. “By engaging the academic and private sectors, the initiative sets an example for Taiwan’s agricultural, manufacturing and services industries.”

Attended by more than 200 senior public sector officials, corporate executives and representatives from Taiwan’s key high-tech industries, the ceremony signals the intention of the government to leave no stone unturned in fast-tracking the country’s industrial upgrade.

According to the premier, the nine-year, NT$36 billion (US$1.1 billion) project will help selected industries set up five model production lines employing Productivity 4.0 technologies by next year, as well as establish four educational alliances to foster multidisciplinary professionals.

As part of the effort, Vice Premier Chang San-cheng is heading a task force responsible for coordinating policymaking and related measures among the Ministries of Economic Affairs, Education, Labor, Science and Technology, as well as the Council of Agriculture.

“We expect this undertaking to slash product R&D time by 50 percent, increase a firm’s efficiency by 15 percent within five years and ensure that half of all requisite technologies are developed in house,” Mao said.

“Taiwan will remain at the head of the pack during what promises to be an exciting era of product development and diversification in the 21st century.”
