Taiwan scholars win Jean Monnet Actions grants

Nine projects from Taiwan scholars were recently awarded Jean Monnet Actions grants under the European Commission Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency.

Chu Chin-peng, professor of public administration at National Dong Hwa University, and Li-jiuan Chen-Rabich, associate professor of graduate European studies at Tamkang University, are among the 2015 list of 40 JM Chair recipients.

Over the next three years, the pair will receive 40,392 euros (US$44,740) and 50,000 euros, respectively, to conduct studies on EU-related issues.

Su Hung-dah, professor of political science at National Taiwan University, is a winner of JM Module and JM Centre of Excellence grants totaling 130,000 euros. Su was also named a JM Chair in 2010.

Other Taiwan scholars collecting the JM Module grants include Cho Chung-hung, associate professor of graduate European studies at Tamkang University, and Chen Yi-min, professor of Asia-Pacific industrial and business management at National University of Kaohsiung. Both are awarded grants of 30,000 euros.

Luo Chih-mei, assistant professor of public administration and policy at National Taipei University, will receive 22,680 euros, and Tschan Tschin-lieh, professor of landscape architecture at Fu Jen Catholic University, 29,988 euros.

A joint project by two scholars from the EU Center at Fu Jen Catholic University also picked up 18,144 euros under the JM Module program.

According to the agency, this year’s JM Actions program attracted more than 850 applications from higher education institutions worldwide. A total of 108 and 33 projects earned JM Module and Centre of Excellence grants, respectively.
