Four countries in Central America are expected to sign a free trade agreement with Canada in July 20

Four countries of Central America including El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras went into seventh round of FTA consulting negotiation with Canada on March 8, 2010. The negotiation resulted in 90% agreement. Carlos Moreno, the Director of Bureau of Trade Policy of Ministry of Economic Affairs of El Salvador, expressed that agreements have reached for issues of short term entrance of business persons, over-border service and trade, bilateral defense measure, trade convenience, custom operation procedure, food safety quarantine and animal/plant epidemic quarantine measures. Next round of consulting will be held in July 2010, and it is expected that four countries in Central America will formally sign FTA with Canada at that time.
