Taipei hosts Taiwan Culinary Exhibition
2015/07/16
Taiwan Culinary Exhibition is set to kick off July 17 at Taipei World Trade Center, attracting over 80,000 showgoers and generating NT$100 million (US$3.2 million) in business, according to organizer Taiwan Visitors Association.
Boasting 620 booths in 16 pavilions, the theme of the four-day event is Taiwan’s fine food. A vast array of arts, ingredients and utensils are to be on display as part of efforts to establish a world-class platform for the nation’s proud food traditions.
TVA Chairwoman Janice Lai said after a hiatus of two years, this year’s edition marks a new beginning for the exhibition. “With the support of the central and local governments, the new-look event is set to be Taiwan’s biggest-ever food expo.
“There is no question that our cuisine deserves to stand tall on the global stage as it uniquely reflects Chinese, Japanese and Western influences.”
In addition to high-end dining experiences, the expo will celebrate such local delicacies as braised pork rice, oyster omelets, pearl milk tea, pig’s blood cake, salt-flavored chicken and tea-infused ice cream.
According to the organizer, a culinary competition is to be staged during the event to discover young talents. The jury will be headed by Taiwan-born, Singapore-based Andre Chiang, hailed as one of the most innovative chefs in Asia.
Masterclasses are also set to be given by renowned chefs from around the world. These include Italian cuisine expert Wang Jia-ping from Taiwan, Michelin-starred Mak Kwai-pui of Hong Kong and Yuji Wakiya from Japan.
Other highlights are workshop sessions by Chen Chien-hao, winner of this year’s International Wine Challenge in London, and Jacky Lai, 2014 World Coffee Roasting Champion at World Coffee Events.
