EVA Airways soars to 9th in global airlines rankings

2015/06/22

Taiwan’s EVA Airways Corp. climbed three places to ninth worldwide in the latest airline rankings released June 16 by U.K.-based Skytrax, a leading aviation industry analysis and assessment firm.

In the online poll involving 18.89 million passengers from over 100 countries and territories, the Taoyuan City-based carrier finished first in cabin cleanliness, second in airport services, third in economy class seats and fourth in transpacific airlines.

This was the best performance to date in the survey by a Taiwan carrier. EVA also made the top 10 list for cabin staff, economy class, Asian airlines, staff in Asia, and business class seats and lounges.

Among the 245 airlines included in the annual rankings, Qatar Airways surpassed last year’s leader Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. to claim top honors. It was followed by Singapore Airlines Ltd., second runner-up from last year, Cathay Pacific, Turkish Airlines and Emirates in that order.

“These results represent a vote of confidence in the company’s outstanding operational performance and highlight the competitiveness of Taiwan’s aviation industry,” EVA spokesman Nieh Kuo-wei said.

The carrier is now a fixture on international airline surveys. Earlier this year, it was rated No. 3 worldwide by Germany-based aviation safety ranking website AERO International.

In addition, it was named one of the top 10 safest full-service airlines for the first time by Australia-based Airline Ratings in January, and the seventh best carrier by the same aviation safety website in December 2014.
