Taipei City-based National Palace Museum hosted the world’s three most popular exhibitions in 2014, according to a survey released earlier this month by British monthly The Art Newspaper.

With 12,861 visitors per day, the “Great Masters of the Ming Dynasty: Tang Yin” topped the most-attended list and attracted 1.13 million patrons during its three-month run.

The “All Complete Qianlong: Emperor Gaozong” came second with a daily attendance of 12,727, followed by “Qianlong C.H.A.O.: New Media Art Exhibition” with an average 10,622 visitors each day.

“Great Masters of the Ming Dynasty: Shen Zhou,” another NPM organized show, ranked eighth on the list. It was followed by the “National Treasures of Japan” exhibition at Tokyo National Museum.

The remaining top-10 spots were filled by five free exhibitions from Bank of Brazil Culutral Center in Rio de Janeiro and Tomie Ohtake Institute in Sao Paulo.

“The Qianlong C.H.A.O. exhibition has won several awards since opening in October 2013,” an NPM official said. These include the Platinum Remi Award at the 47th Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film and Video Festival, as well as the Silver Award at the Muse Awards hosted by the American Alliance of Museums.

“When the show debuted in Paris during the Futur en Seine Digital Festival last June, it also generated great interest among art lovers in France and other European countries,” the official added.

According to the U.K. publication, the NPM was the world’s seventh most popular museum, receiving 5.4 million art lovers last year—over half of whom came from mainland China. Louvre, British Museum and National Gallery topped the list in that order.
