The first documentary on Taiwan’s Tropic of Cancer attractions produced by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and National Geographic Channel was launched March 12 in Taipei City.
“Of the 16 nations straddling the Tropic of Cancer, Taiwan stands out for its fascinating culture, ecosystem and gourmet food,” said Liu Hsi-lin, deputy director-general of the Tourism Bureau under the MOTC. “Such beauty certainly deserves greater recognition and promotion.”
The hourlong “Taste of the Tropic: Taiwan” features Alishan Forest and Budai Township of Chiayi County, Fengbin Township of Hualien County and Hujin Island of outlying Penghu County. It offers viewers the opportunity to see the scenic sites, outdoor activities and delicacies available in the four destinations.
According to Liu, a highlight of the film is the diverse array of activities like white water rafting and cruise boat excursions tourists can enjoy. “Travelers will be amazed at the beauty of our breathtaking scenery,” he said.
Equally impressive, Liu added, are dishes made with local ingredients such as boar meat and cactus fruit. “These scrumptious foods bear testament to the sunny weather and pristine environment of Taiwan that appeal to tourists worldwide.”
The documentary premieres March 13 in Taiwan and air on NGC and Nat Geo People in 35 countries and territories across Asia four days later. “We invite all and sundry to watch the show and learn more about this stunning island called Taiwan,’” Liu said.
