Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is the winner of the inaugural World’s Best Airport Staff Service award, according U.K.-based Skytrax March 11.
Based on the responses of 13.02 million passengers in 112 countries and territories, the survey put TTIA ahead of 549 airports. It was followed by Japan’s Haneda Airport and South Korea's Incheon International Airport in that order.
“The prestigious award demonstrates that efforts by the facility in enhancing customer services across the board are paying dividends,” a TTIA official said. “This recognition is also a strong international endorsement of Taiwan’s soft power.”
According to the air travel rating and review agency, the coveted accolade recognizes quality performance of an airport’s front-line staff in a variety of functions like airport guides, customer service, restaurants, security and shops.
TTIA was among the top 10 in nine other categories. These include No. 2 in airport immigration; No. 4 in baggage delivery and security; No. 6 in transit passengers; No. 8 in leisure amenities; and No. 9 in shopping.
Overall, the northern Taiwan facility was rated the 17th best airport in the world, up one spot from last year. Singapore Changi Airport, Incheon International Airport and Munich Airport are the top three in that order.
TTIA has been making steady progress in global surveys over the past few years. The latest service quality rankings released last month by Montreal-based Airports Council International rated the airport as the world’s second best in the 25-40 million passenger category behind Indira Gandhi International Airport.
