Taipei International Machine Tool Show is gearing up to generate US$2.1 billion-plus through the activities of 1,015 exhibitors and 53,000 buyers from home and abroad, according to Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry.

“This year, we have 5,411 booths at Taipei Expo Park, Taipei World Trade Center and TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall,” TAMI Chairman Hsu Hsiu-tsang said at the show’s launch March 3. “Now in its 25th edition, the biennial event is the second largest in Asia and one of the top five of its kind in the world.”

According to Hsu, the six-day show features 14 procurement delegations organized by Brazil, India, the Philippines, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam. It continues making significant gains in international buyer numbers, with this year’s tally up from 46,722 in 2013.

The show’s increasing prestige is reflected in its exhibitor base. A total of 260 come from 18 countries and territories, including technology powerhouses Australia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Spain, Switzerland and the U.S.

In addition, leading players in the global machine tool industry are displaying their wares at the event. Some of these are DMG Mori Seiki Co., Fanuc Corp., Heidenhain GmbH, Mazk Corp., Siemens AG, Sodick Inc. and THK Co. Ltd.

According to TAMI statistics, Taiwan’s machine tool exports reached US$3.75 billion in 2014, up 5.8 percent from the year before. Mainland China was the main destination, accounting for 32.4 percent and a rise of 7.3 percent in procurements to US$1.22 billion. The U.S. followed with US$410 million, or 11.1 percent, up 3 percent from 2013.

Hsu said Taiwan is benefitting from the smart manufacturing trend evident in the global industrial sector. “We are upbeat on our projections and expect the show and development of new products to spur the growth of machine tool exports throughout the rest of the year.”
