NDC hosts spatial development exhibition

2015-03-04

A National Development Council-organized multimedia exhibition highlighting the historical development of Taiwan through land use and spatial planning policymaking is underway in Taipei City.

During the event’s Feb. 27 opening ceremony, Premier Mao Chi-kuo said sustainable development of land is an underlying precept of organized societies and a foundation for prosperity. “It is important to understand how the government is working to foster economic development and enhance quality of life while preserving the environment.”

Echoing Mao’s remarks, NDC Minister Duh Tyzz-jiun said land is the lifeblood of economic and social development in Taiwan, and the exhibition will help the public better understand the overarching logic shaping related key measures.

Arranged in five themes, the event pays particular attention to efforts promoting homeland conservation and environmental sustainability, as well local government initiatives aimed at spurring regional development.

Other highlights include a display setting out possible smart policymaking applications for the decade-old National Geographic Information System; artistic performances; seminars; video screenings; and an exhibition of 600-plus drawings entered in a number of pre-event national drawing competitions.

Staged at the 7.15-hectare former headquarters of the ROC air force on Renai Road, the exhibition runs until April 9 and is expected to prove popular with locals and visitors alike.
