TTIA soars to 2nd in global services survey

2015-02-25

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is the world’s second best by size, according to the latest service quality ratings released by Montreal-based Airports Council International.

In the annual Airports Service Quality survey measuring passenger satisfaction, TTIA moved up one spot to finish behind Indira Gandhi International Airport of India in the 25-40 million passenger category. Mainland China’s Chongqing International Airport rounded out the top three.

This year’s survey evaluated more than 300 airports across 34 key service areas in eight major categories like access, airport facilities, check-in and security.

“Without question, this is our best rating to date and represents a vote of confidence given the increasingly competitive international market,” a TTIA official said. “We will continue improving overall service quality and build the facility into a smart airport better meeting the needs of passengers.”

According to the official, TTIA projects in the pipeline over the coming 12 months include canvassing bids for the design of Terminal Three, expansion of Terminal Two and facilitywide software upgrades.

These capitalize upon a series of initiatives launched last year, including newly refurbished Terminal One and additional passenger facilities and services in the lounges. Such efforts saw the airport climb six places to 18th in the 2014 global rankings released in July the same year by U.K.-based Skytrax.

Founded in 1991, ACI is a global trade association of airports with the objective to foster cooperation among its members and other partners in world aviation.
