Top 10 Taiwan photographs unveiled by Flickr

The 10 most popular Taiwan photographs on Flickr for 2014 were named Jan. 19 by the U.S.-based image and video-hosting website, highlighting an array of popular tourist spots nationwide.

Top position went to a shot of the early morning fog burning off a tea plantation in Pinglin District, New Taipei City, with second and third places going respectively to another sunrise snap at Erliao in Tainan City and an autumn dusk at Lotus Pond in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung City.

The Erliao image shows the sun streaming over the mountains across a mist-shrouded vista dominated by thorny bamboo, while the Lotus Pond frames the serene waters of the manmade lake against the bruised color of the big southern sky.

Remaining photos in ascending order are Taipei 101 in Taipei City; Taiwu Mountain in outlying Kinmen County; Stone Trench along Laomei Coast in New Taipei; Ayu Stream in Wulai District, New Taipei; a flower garden in Sanxing Township, Yilan County; the commercial Xinyi District in Taipei; and a Tamsui sunset in New Taipei .

Sources familiar with the matter said Taiwan stood out for having the majority of its shots comprising natural sceneries. This was in stark contrast to architecture-themed photos dominating the top 10s of Asian countries and territories like Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and mainland China.

According to Flickr, the photo listings are compiled annually and encompass the categories of globe, countries and territories.
