2015-01-09

Taiwan carrier EVA Airways Corp. was listed among the top 10 safest full-service airlines worldwide in 2015, according to a survey released Jan. 7 by Australia-based aviation safety website Airline Ratings.

“Being selected for the list for the second year is meaningful and more than welcome,” EVA Chairman Chang Kuo-wei said. “But we will not rest on our laurels as safety and quality will always be our priority.”

According to the website, EVA was chosen out of 449 regularly monitored airlines for its safety and excellent operational record. In addition, the carrier met AR’s seven-star safety assessment criteria.

These standards include a fatality-free record for the past 10 years, operational safety audit certification by the International Air Transport Association and meeting all eight safety parameters of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Top spot went to Australian carrier Qantas Airways Ltd., which boasts a fatality-free record in the jet era, according to AR. Others on the list are Air New Zealand Ltd., British Airways PLC, Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd., Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways Ltd., Finnair PLC, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines.

Established in 1989, Taoyuan County-based EVA is a regular winner of aviation industry and travel surveys. It has been named one of the world’s top 10 safest airlines seven times since 2004 by Germany-based airline industry magazine Aero International.
