PC and electronics maker AsusTek Computer Inc. topped Taiwan’s most valuable global brand rankings for the second year with an estimated value of US$1.72 billion, according to a survey released Dec. 17 by the Industrial Development Bureau under the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Network security solution provider Trend Micro Inc. moved up one place to No. 2 on the list with a value of US$1.25 billion, trailed by food and media conglomerate Want Want Holdings Ltd. with US$1.06 billion.
The top 10 brands also include smartphone producer HTC Inc.; PC maker Acer Inc.; bicycle maker Giant Manufacturing Co. Ltd.; tire manufacturer Cheng Shin Ind. Co. Ltd., which operates under the brand name Maxxis; bicycle maker Merida Industry Co. Ltd.; supply chain services company Synnex Technology Int’l Corp.; and computer solutions provider Advantech Co. Ltd.
“This year, the combined value of the top 20 Taiwan global brands stands at US$8.73 billion,” IDB Director-general Wu Ming-ji said, adding that the technology and bicycle industries delivered especially remarkable results with 24 percent and 9 percent year-on-year growth, respectively.
In addition to the continued dominance of brands in said sectors, a notable trend this year is the rise of leasing and financing services company Chailease Holding Co. Ltd., which shot to No. 12 with an estimated value of US$188 million, or 20 percent greater than last year.
“The latest rankings reflect increasing diversification of brand development in Taiwan,” Wu said. With industry segments blurred by the development of cloud applications and the Internet of Things, he expects brands capable of providing distinctive user experiences and satisfying consumer needs to come out on top in global competition.
The yearly survey is a joint effort among the IDB, U.S.-based brand consultancy Interbrand and the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research. By incorporating the methodology of Interbrand’s annual Best Global Brands report, the survey is intended to help Taiwan enterprises accurately assess their brand value and better position themselves in the global marketplace.
