Taiwan recognizes global ICT partners

2014-11-21

International firms significantly contributing to the promotion of Taiwan’s information and communications technology sector on the global stage were honored at an awards ceremony by the Ministry of Economic Affairs Nov. 19 in Taipei City.

“Over the years, the relationship between Taiwan’s ICT firms and these industry heavyweights have transformed from pure procurement to partnerships spanning service applications, software development and system integration, among many key business areas,” MOEA minister Duh Tyzz-jiun said.

“The International Procurement Office Awards underscore the government’s goal of continuously promoting strategic partnerships to help diversify ICT sector development and facilitate transformation of Taiwan’s industrial structure.”

A total of 18 global firms received 20 awards in the categories of green systems, innovation, market expansion, software integration, strategic partnership and added-value technology. They span sectors such as cloud services, digital content development, hardware manufacturing and intellectual properties.

Many of the winners are household names, including ARM Holdings plc, ASML Holding NV, Broadcom Corp., Dell Inc., Google Inc., Hewlett Packard Co., Microsoft Corp., Panasonic Corp., Qualcomm Inc., Sony Corp. and TDK Corp.

According to statistics by state-backed Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute, procurements by foreign ICT firms are expected to hit US$93.67 billion in 2014, up 2.2 percent from last year, with most of the gains coming from smart handheld devices and semiconductors.

Duh said the MOEA will continue working to roll out policy measures fostering long-term partnerships between Taiwan and the global business community, while at the same time revamping the local ICT sector and business environment.
