TTIA Terminal 2 set for US$82 million upgrade

2014-11-20

An NT$2.47 billion (US$82 million) Terminal Two refurbishment and expansion project was unveiled Nov. 18 by Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Corp.

The undertaking involves renovating the arrival and reception areas, as well as the connecting corridors. In addition, space will be increased on the third, fourth and fifth floors for airline service counters, retail outlets and a restaurant with a panoramic view of the facility.

Once work is completed in 2016, the new-look terminal is expected to handle 22 million passengers per year.

TTIAC Deputy General Manager Wen Yung-sung said the age of the 14-year-old terminal and increased passenger volume at the airport necessitated the project. “It is very likely the number of annual passengers served by the facility will surpass 34.2 million by the end of 2014, topping 30.7 million last year.

“After Terminal One was expanded in July 2013, its number of passengers grew from 5 million to 15 million per year. If this trend of 10 percent growth holds, we could be looking at 38 million by the end of 2015,” he said.

“We believe the revamped terminal will allow passengers and their families and friends to feel more comfortable and contented when visiting the airport.”
