Taipei City stars in new movie exhibition

2014-11-03

An exhibition spotlighting the many faces and charms of Taipei City on the silver screen was launched Oct. 30 by Taipei Film Commission.

“Taipei in the Movies” comprises eight exhibition areas featuring clips from landmark local productions, movie posters, multimedia presentations, photos from behind the scenes, film scores and theme songs. It runs until Feb. 1, 2015, at Discovery Center of Taipei.

Highlights of the event include a tour of locations used for filming and the City X Movies forum. The latter is to be hosted by such industry figures as Golden Horse Award winners producer Lee Lieh and actress Yang Kuei-mei, as well as cinema historian Chuang Yung-ming, edgy director Hou Chi-jan and TFC art director Yao Tzu-chuan.

Sun Ting-long, director-general of Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism, said the purpose of the exhibition is to document the changing appearance of the metropolis over the years.

“No two directors have shot Taipei the same way,” he said. “We expect this event to help residents rediscover their city and develop a greater appreciation of their unique surrounds.”

Echoing Sun’s remarks, Chuang said movies faithfully mirror the look and feel of a city. “Only a film can allow us to experience and appreciate the nuances of Taipei viewed through the prism of time.”
