Songshan Line on track for November opening

2014-10-07

Taipei Metro’s Songshan Line is set to commence trial operations in November, easing rush-hour congestion at Taipei Main, Zhongxiao Fuxing and Zhongxiao Xinsheng stations, according to operator Taipei Rapid Transit Corp. Oct. 5.

“Songshan, the third east-west line in our system, will have five independent yet interlinked routes,” a TRTC official said. “The number of interchange stations will also increase from nine to 12, considerably diversifying the passengers’ traveling options.”

The 8.5-kilometer line has eight underground stations with a total journey time estimated at 15 minutes. The route is conjoined with the present Xindian Line at Ximen Station, separating the latter from the north-south Tamsui Line.

Connecting with Wenhu, Xinyi and Zhonghe-Xinlu lines, Songshan fleshes out the metropolis’ extensive metro network, which has been growing at the rate of one new line each year.

“Once Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Line comes on line, it will link with Songshan at Beimen Station in Taipei City,” the official said. “Travelers will be able to take international flights from the airport with the greatest of ease.”
