The Asian MICE Forum wrapped up Sept. 18 in Taipei City, with the event’s greatly expanded scale demonstrating Taiwan’s rapid emergence as a key international hub for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.
“We are extremely excited to highlight the important role of Taiwan in the international MICE sector through the event,” said Francis Liang, chairman of Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), at the Taipei International Convention Center-staged event.
“The nation topped Asia with 14 percent and 12 percent growth in gross sales space and revenues in the exhibitions and events sector, respectively, in 2013. We expect Taiwan to continue achieving stellar growth going forward.”
Innovation and storytelling were the twin themes of the event, which featured keynote speeches and panel discussions by industry leaders from home and abroad.
About 700 participants from 20 countries attended the two-day forum, including David DuBois, president of International Association of Exhibitions and Events, and Jason Yeh, chairman of Taiwan Convention and Exhibition Association.
This year’s AMF set a precedent for the events industry in Asia by adopting the ISO 20121 management standard, Liang said. "It is the latest international standard designed to help event organizers improve the sustainability of their activities, products and services."
Taiwan’s MICE Awards, the nation’s only event of its kind in the sector, also featured at the forum. A total of 23 finalists such as Elite Professional Conference Organizer and Messe Frankfurt New Era Business Media Ltd. were shortlisted from 54 entries, with winners due to be announced shortly.
