Yingge readies for 2018 IAC General Assembly

2014-09-17

Yingge Ceramics Museum in New Taipei City was recently praised by Switzerland-based International Academy of Ceramics for its preparations to host the organization’s 2018 general assembly.

“Our presentation was warmly received by delegates at the IAC global gathering,” said Cheng Wen-hung, Yingge’s representative at the biennial event held this year Sept. 8-12 in Dublin. “They cannot wait to visit Taiwan and gain a better understanding of the nation’s robust ceramics industry.”

According to Cheng, Yingge has worked nonstop to make ready for the 2018 general assembly since winning the hosting rights six years earlier. Focusing on diversity, functionality and spirit of design, the event is set to feature a variety of activities such as seminars and workshops showcasing unique ceramic designs steeped in Taiwan culture.

The assembly will also complement the 2018 Taiwan Ceramics Biennale and displays of local artworks in joint exhibitions held by galleries and art schools across Taiwan.

Cheng said Taiwan’s rising reputation as a ceramics hub has caught the attention of the IAC. “We may even have a representative named to the academy once the country has 30 or more IAC members.”

At present, Taiwan has two group members, Yingge and Shuili Snakekiln Ceramics Cultural Park, as well as seven individual members such as renowned industry figures Chu Fang-yi, Samuel Shih and Shao Ting-ju.

Established in 1952, IAC is the only ceramics-related official partner of UNESCO. It comprises 600-plus individual and group members across 53 countries and territories worldwide.
