MGM Festival readies to rock Taichung

2014-09-12

Maple Garden Music Festival in Taichung’s Xitun District will kick off Sept. 12, showcasing the best and brightest performers of the central Taiwan city.

“Taichung is considered a powerhouse for Taiwan pop music, with famous singers like Julie Sue and Tracy Huang, as well as drummer Rich Huang, coming from the metropolis,” a Taichung City Government official said. "It is also well-known for Houli District, a major global production center for saxophones.”

Held every weekend in the evenings until Sept. 27, the event features six concerts given by singers including Jiajia and Ric, as well as bands such as Grayscale and Retroage, the official said.

The Maple Garden, a major regional tourist attraction, opened Nov. 25, 2012. It contains red trees, green grass, a lake and observatory bridge, making it the ideal venue for this year's festival.

Entering into its second year, the concerts are sure to prove popular with music lovers in this 500-seat Central Park-like outdoor theater, according to the official.
