Textile industry showcased in New Taipei City

2014-09-11

The inaugural New Taipei City Textile Industry Trade Show kicked off Sept. 5, with deals estimated at NT$3 billion (US$100 million) sealed at the event, according to the local government’s Economic Development Department.

Complete with a fashion show and matchmaking sessions at New Taipei City Hall, the event showcased the metropolis’s role in spearheading Taiwan’s fashion and textile industry.

“New Taipei is Taiwan’s most populous city and the nation’s largest textile industry hub," Mayor Eric Chu said. "The trade show will help transform and upgrade the industry by generating global business opportunities."

Buyers from such countries as Japan, South Korea, the U.K and U.S. met with 132 local firms specializing in textile processing and production, according to EDD.

By weaving a diverse range of materials like coffee carbon, metal, organza and polypropylene fibers into their products, these firms have created innovative textile applications. Collaboration with homegrown designers added fashion flair to the functional apparel modeled on the catwalk.

With international buyers showing keen interest in these design-driven innovations, EDD said the success of the inaugural show will boost the local industry’s international presence.

“The event facilitates systematic integration of the industry chain and create added value through enhanced collaboration with fashion designers,” EDD said. “The city government will continue to step up efforts to assist the local textile industry in exploring global business opportunities.”
