Taiwan indie band set for Northeast Asia tour

2014-09-03

Taiwan indie rockers Mixer, winner of Best Band honor at this year’s Golden Melody Awards, will stage a cultural performance tour of Japan and South Korea Sept. 8-13, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“It is important to foster exchanges between Taiwan youth and their overseas counterparts through such cultural diplomacy tours,” MOFA Vice Minister Vanessa Shih said Sept. 1. “We are extremely proud to have Mixer represent Taiwan and promote the nation’s magnificent music culture.”

Also attending the event was Takashi Hamada, secretary-general of Japan’s Interchange Association office in Taipei, and Cho Baek-sang, South Korea’s representative to Taiwan.

According to Shih, the five-member band will visit Tokyo ESP Music Academy and attend the special feature section on Taiwan movies at Focus on Asia International Film Festival Fukuoka. They will also play a miniconcert with two indie bands in the South Korean port city Busan.

The MOFA is constantly working to highlight the creativity and talent of young people in Taiwan, Shih said, citing ministry-backed undertakings as Team-Win Lion Dance Theatre’s recent trip to Northern Europe and the International Youth Ambassador Exchange Program.

“Taiwan’s abundance of culture is a key element of the nation’s soft power. We will continue promoting this asset and boosting the nation’s international profile,” Shih said.
