Taiwan art gallery launched by Taipei 101
2014-08-28
A gallery showcasing local artists’ creativity and the beauty of Taiwan was inaugurated Aug. 26 at landmark Taipei 101, the tallest and largest green building in the world.
Situated on the ground floor, 330-square-meter Gallery 101 is expected to attract more visitors to the structure and further grow Taiwan’s international footprint.
“2014 marks the building’s 10th anniversary and we are celebrating the occasion with a special gesture,” Taipei 101 Chairwoman Christina Sung said. “The gallery represents our commitment to boosting the profile of the structure and Taiwan abroad.”
Echoing Sung’s remarks, Wei Ying-chiao—CEO of the building’s management firm Taipei Financial Center Corp.—said he was confident the gallery will enhance the global appeal of Taipei 101.
The first exhibition staged at the gallery opened the same day. It features classic pieces by renowned photographer Ko Si-chi, sculptor Lee Kuang-yu, as well as painters Su Hsien-fa and the late Yang Hsing-sheng.
According to Sung, the artists were selected to take part in the exhibition as their works are inspired by historic and cultural attractions around Taiwan such as Lungshan Temple in Lukang Township of Changhua County.
“There truly is no better venue in Taiwan for introducing accomplished local artists to visitors from abroad,” Sung said.
