2014-08-27
A 4.8-hectare ecological art park was inaugurated in Nantou County’s Caotun Township Aug. 25 by the Ministry of Culture, boosting promotion of the arts sector in central Taiwan.
“The park is an outstanding combination of art creations incorporating aspects of environmental protection,” MOC Minister Lung Ying-tai said at the opening ceremony. “We expect it to lay the foundations for a cultural network in central Taiwan.
"The network paves the way for cooperation among the MOC, National Taiwan Crafts Research and Development Institute and artists on various projects."
Also attending the event were Nantou County Deputy Magistrate Chen Chih-ching and around 30 representatives of the local arts scene, including bamboo weaver Chang Hsien-ping and pottery master Tseng Ming-nan.
The park’s launch also coincided with the staging of its first exhibition. Featuring five resident artists such as Chen Shu-yen, Li Chao-tsang, Lo Li-feng, Tsai Chieh-hsin and Yang Wei-lin, the exhibition spotlights a variety of green-inspired artworks fashioned from organic materials.
In addition to the exhibition, the park boasts eight public art installations comprising such materials as stainless steel and stone. Access is via outdoor trails, allowing visitors to experience the flora and fauna of the area.
