Taipei City launches corporate cloud SME platform

A cloud program offering free downloads of business-related software kicked off Aug. 12 in Taipei City, underscoring the local government’s commitment to promoting small and medium enterprise development.
The program comprises 10 sections containing software designed to assist budget-conscious SMEs start and manage a business online. Compatible with a wide range of mobile devices, the software is instantly accessible and has multipurpose applications.
Wu Hsin-pei, deputy commissioner of Taipei City Government’s Department of Economic Development, said the initiative is in response to growing SME demand for assistance in overcoming challenges associated with operating a cloud business.
“More than 95 percent of companies in Taipei are in this boat and many face financial and human resources limitations when attempting to expand into this potential-laden segment of the market,” she said. “The platform’s one-stop mechanism also frees SMEs from the tedious task of managing a variety of online transaction-related issues.”
The undertaking has been received positively by the local SME community, with an official from Taipei Station Wholesale Market describing it as a “surefire way” of enhancing the global competitiveness of local firms.
“Of the market’s nearly 300 businesses, only 20 have a website due to cost concerns,” the official said. “The launch of the platform will certainly bolster the development of Taipei e-commerce.”
