The major attractions of Taiwan’s 22 cities and counties are starring in an eye-catching feature presentation screening through Sept. 30 in the 89th-floor observatory of the landmark Taipei 101 building.
Produced by the Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the feature showcases a wide range of cultural events and scenic destinations around Taiwan and the nation’s outlying islands. It is expected to play a key role in promoting the merits of the burgeoning domestic travel sector.
Bureau Deputy Director-General Wayne Liu said Aug. 12 that the feature and associated exhibition are a central plank in government efforts to integrate Taiwan’s rich tourism resources.
“In addition, they harness Taiwan’s high-tech edge by providing visitors with detailed information on feature destinations through quick response codes,” he said. “This access is certain to boost the success of two themed activities Aug. 16 and Sept. 13 highlighting destinations perfect for late summer getaways.”
According to Liu, the feature and exhibition mark the third consecutive year of collaboration between the bureau and Taiwan’s tallest skyscraper. “Taipei 101 is representative of the city and nation as a whole. By capitalizing on its international reputation, we expect our marketing efforts to make strong headway in taking Taiwan’s beauty to the world,” he said.
The bureau’s last campaign, which linked local activities in a variety of tours from October 2013 to February, reached over 70 million visitors from home and abroad. Highlights included the Christmas parade in Pingtung County’s Wanjin Village, a giant black rubber duck floating in Hualien County’s Liyu Lake and Lantern Festival celebration in Taipei City.
Government statistics reveal revenues of NT$31.6 billion (US$1.1 billion) were generated by the local tourism industry during this period.
