Taipei 101 aims for greater international heights

A series of tourism-related activities hosted by Taipei 101 in conjunction with Tokyo Skytree is expected to further boost the landmark Taiwan structure’s global profile.
The first major event involves a photography exhibition featuring select shots of Taipei 101 from international contests over the past decade. Running Aug. 1-14 at Tokyo Skytree, “Time for Taiwan” offers visitors a unique perspective on the iconic building that was once the tallest in the world.
“This undertaking will certainly promote our instantly recognizable skyscraper,” Taipei 101 Chairwoman Christina Sung said during a media conference Aug. 4 at Tokyo Skytree, the tallest structure in Japan.
“Going forward, the two buildings can jointly seek exchanges with other towers abroad in an effort to take promotions to new heights.”
Citing government statistics, Sung said Taiwan-Japan tourism exchanges are going from strength to strength. “Taiwan received 1.42 million Japanese tourist visits last year, ranking Japan No. 2 on the country’s inbound tourism list. Taiwan travelers also consider the northeastern Asian nation their second favorite destination, making 2.34 million tourist visits in the same year.”
Sung said the promotion is set to capitalize on this trend and spur more tourist visits between the two nations.
The exhibition follows on the heels of a successful marketing campaign featuring commemorative souvenirs such as plastic folders and pens launched July 10 by the two buildings. Another headline promotion is set to kick off Nov. 7 during the Taipei Travel Expo.
