6th cross-strait ECC meeting set for Beijing
2014-08-05
The sixth round of the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Committee meeting will take place Aug. 5 in Beijing, according to Taiwan’s Straits Exchange Foundation.
Led by Cho Shih-chao, deputy head of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Taiwan delegation comprises officials from the Financial Supervisory Commission, Mainland Affairs Council, Ministry of Finance, MOEA, National Development Council and SEF.
The one-day event will be jointly chaired by SEF Vice Chairman Chang Hsien-yao and Zheng Lizhong, executive vice chairman of mainland China's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits.
Delegates from both sides are set to review implementation results of key measures under the Cross-Straits Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA).
These include the early harvest list of trade in goods and services, as well as updates of the six working groups on customs cooperation, dispute settlement, industrial collaboration, investment, trade in goods and trade in services.
Another key issue on the agenda is the reciprocal establishment of more business association offices. On July 5, the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association set up a representative office in Kunshan, Jiangsu province, the first private business association from Taiwan to do so in mainland China.
According to sources familiar with the issue, representatives from the FSC will also discuss with its Beijing counterpart the possibility of granting Taiwan a quota under the yuan qualified foreign institutional investor scheme, which will allow QFIIs to invest in mainland China’s capital market.
