The second Taiwan-France scientific research meeting was held April 20-21 in the French city of Grenoble with discussions focused on ways to deepen cooperation in six major areas.
According to the NSTC, the Taiwan delegation was headed by Minister Wu Cheng-wen and included officials from the National Institutes of Applied Research and local experts and academics.
The French side comprised members from the French National Research Agency, French National Centre for Scientific Research, French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm), and French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation.
The first such meeting was held in April 2024 in Taiwan by the NSTC and the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and Space under the bilateral Science and Technology Cooperation Convention concluded on Nov. 23, 2023.
In opening remarks, the minister said France is one of the most important European partners to Taiwan in terms of scientific research, with bilateral cooperation spanning over 30 years.
Wu said the two sides have concluded cooperative pacts and established comprehensive mechanisms to sponsor research projects and foster exchanges, such as promoting personnel cultivation and organizing the Franco-Taiwanese Scientific Grand Prize. France has a long history of leadership in scientific research thus the minister anticipated enhanced cooperation in the future.
According to the NSTC, the two-day event featured keynote speeches, seminars, themed-conferences and site visits, and attracted over 100 participants who focused discussions on semiconductors, quantum computing, biomedicine, green energy and carbon reduction, artificial intelligence and information security, and space and marine technologies.
As part of his visit, Wu witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between NIAR and Inserm, as well as made a call on Paris-Saclay University and the City of Science and Industry, the council said.
