VP Hsiao addresses 41st Space Symposium

2026/04/17

Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim said that Taiwan is eager to share its technological expertise and work with regional partners to build a safe and prosperous future.

Hsiao made the remarks in a prerecorded video screened April 15 for a program on Indo-Pacific military perspectives and partnerships at the 41st Space Symposium, organized by the Space Foundation and held in Colorado.

The vice president first expressed gratitude to Thomas Dorame, senior vice president for Space Sector Programs, and Kari Bingen, a senior fellow at the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, for the invitation.

Hsiao said that Taiwan views the development of space technology as vital to progress in next-generation communications and defense-oriented intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. She added that this infrastructure is a pillar of President Lai Ching-te’s Whole-of-Society Defense Resilience framework, which addresses preparedness in the face of complex geopolitical challenges.

The vice president said it is necessary to integrate innovation in the private sector with domestic defense production, adding that Taiwan’s status as an indispensable semiconductor hub has prepared the country to launch next-generation space technology and national defense mechanisms. She also said Taiwan’s vibrant democracy, precision manufacturing capabilities and its capacity to provide advanced components for the global supply chain are key strengths.

Hsiao emphasized Taiwan’s eagerness to join in the symposium’s dialogues and extended an invitation to attend the 2026 Taiwan International Assembly of Space Science, Technology, and Industry scheduled for Nov. 8-12 in Tainan City.
