Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu and Secretary General of Flanders Chancellery and Foreign Office, Julie Bynens, hosted a second joint commission meeting Nov. 20 in Brussels, a bilateral commitment to deepening cooperation, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry said officials from the Ministries of Economics, Education, Foreign Affairs, Labor, Transportation and Communications also participated in the meeting in which they exchanged views with Belgium counterparts on commerce and investment, education, employment and vocational training, public health, sustainable energy and technology. They also explored potential cooperation in agriculture, cyber security, digital economy, diplomatic personnel training and semiconductors.

The MOFA stated that MOFA, MOL and MOTC officials visited the Flemish Parliament, scientific research institutions, supply chain facilities and Government of Flanders officials.

Under the Belgian constitutional system, three regions including the Government of Flanders exercise “matters of competence” to sign pacts and enter partnerships with foreign governments with the same legal force as that of the federal level, the ministry added. The MOFA pledged to further advance mutually beneficial partnership with Government of Flanders.
