The 15th Taiwan-Israel Economic and Technological Cooperation Conference took place Nov. 17 via video link, with both sides pledging to continue expanding trade and industry partnerships.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the event was convened by Deputy Minister Cynthia Kiang and Roey Fisher, director of the Foreign Trade Administration at the Israeli Ministry of Economy and Industry.
The two sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues such as artificial intelligence, environmental protection, innovative technologies, smart city development, standardization and water resource management and explored ways to expand cooperation.
Kiang said given the rapid changes in the global trade and economic landscape, countries around the world are looking to construct a secure, comprehensive and resilient supply chain system. She praised Israel as a powerhouse for startups, and anticipated that the two sides would leverage their respective strengths to enhance supply chain partnerships in emerging technologies.
During the event two memorandums of understanding on patent prosecution highway agreement and intellectual property rights cooperation were signed by Abby Ya-ping Lee, head of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Tel Aviv, and Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei Rep. Maya Yaron.
The MOEA said the PPH agreement, set to take effect Jan. 2, 2026, is the eighth made with another country following the U.S., Japan, Spain, South Korea, Poland, Canada and France. The IPR pact will facilitate information sharing and personnel exchanges, among other key issues.
Official statistics show that bilateral trade reached US$2.72 billion for the first 10 months of 2025, up 38 percent from the same period last year. Accumulated two-way investment amounted to US$210 million as of September this year, with most of the investment from Taiwan being in the electronic components and parts, integrated circuit and optical sectors.
