AELM envoy Lin Hsin-i meets with president
2025/10/23
President Lai Ching-te wished the delegation to the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders’ Meeting well prior to their departure for Gyeongju, Korea, Oct. 21 at the Presidential Office. Lai anticipated that envoy Lin Hsin-i would successfully expand cooperative opportunities with fellow member economies.
The APEC meeting is scheduled for Oct. 31-Nov. 1 on a theme of “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper,” which aligns with Taiwanese policy, the president said. Lai lauded Lin’s experience in both the public and private sectors and outlined Taiwan’s three main communication goals for the meeting.
The first is that Taiwan is committed to strengthening economic resilience and wishes to work with other countries to advance overall regional development, and also that the country continues to forge a fair, free and legally protected investment climate.
Second, Taiwan is willing to share its experience in pioneer industries such as semiconductors with like-minded partners to address global challenges. Third, Taiwan wishes to make substantive contributions to the region through people-centered artificial intelligence and applications in digital health and sustainable governance.
Lin noted that the global economy is facing various challenges including an aging population, a low fertility rate and geopolitical conflict, as well as risks and opportunities brought by AI and digital transition. He noted that the gross domestic product of the 21 APEC economies together accounts for 61 percent of global GDP, thus the body plays a vital role in addressing current challenges.
Lin was optimistic that Taiwan’s strong foundation in digital technology and the efficacy of its small- and medium-enterprises rendered the country capable of positively contributing to Asia-Pacific regional prosperity and sustainability.
