President Lai receives foreign dignitaries for National Day celebrations

President Lai Ching-te received foreign dignitaries visiting to attend the National Day celebrations Oct. 10 in Taipei City and reiterated his commitment to expanding cooperation to promote mutual prosperity.
 
According to the Presidential Office, Lai and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim welcomed around 140 foreign dignitaries to the PO for the event, including Belize Governor-General Froyla Tzalam, St. Lucia Governor-General Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles and Paraguay Chamber of Deputies President Raúl Luis Latorre Martínez.
 
Other guests of honor included legislators from Japan and Sweden, as well as diplomats from the representative offices of Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Singapore, the European Union, the U.K. and the U.S.
 
During a luncheon for the Japanese Diet delegation, Lai thanked members of the Japan-ROC Diet Members’ Consultative Council for helping improve bilateral relations and expressed hope that Taiwan’s good friends on the council continue to deepen cooperation to take Taiwan-Japan friendship to a new level.
 
The president then welcomed Tzalam for her first visit to Taiwan. Lai said the diplomatic partnership of 36 years is built on the shared universal values of democracy, freedom and respect for human rights, adding that Taiwan will keep working with Belize to advance mutual prosperity and development.
 
While meeting with Charles, who was also visiting for the first time, the president thanked St. Lucia for speaking up for Taiwan at various international forums over the years. Lai said Taiwan looks forward to expanding and diversifying bilateral cooperation to contribute to regional prosperity and advancement.
