Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung emphasized that respecting differences and appreciating diversity are core values shared by Taiwan and fellow democracies.
Lin made the remarks while attending the award ceremony of the #FindingTaiwan International Short Film Contest Sept. 26 in Taipei City. The four-month competition drew 283 submissions by participants from over 20 countries and territories, including France, Germany, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Paraguay, the Netherlands, the Philippines, the U.K. and the U.S., the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Speaking at the ceremony, the minister said that Finding Taiwan embodies the same spirit of cultural diplomacy that he has been promoting since taking office, adding that culture is a resilient form of soft power that transcends the boundaries of languages and borders. He thanked all the contestants for using cinematic language to portray Taiwan’s story.
Having recently returned from a European tour, Lin also shared the passion for Taiwanese culture that he felt while attending Taiwan Culture in Europe 2025 events.
According to the MOFA, Carl Ivan Baleros from the Philippines took the grand prize of NT$200,000 (US$6,564) for his work entitled “Finding the Beauty of Life in Taiwan.” Baleros said that his late mother had encouraged him to visit Taiwan and that he was deeply impressed with the country’s beauty.
The ministry said the contest is an upgrade of the former Trending Taiwan Short Film Competition, with a total prize pool of NT$1 million (US$32,820). It pledged to continue promoting cultural diplomacy to share Taiwan’s richness and diversity with the world.
