2025/07/04
Economic Minister Kuo Jyh-huei and Thambo Gina, Eswatini’s economic planning and development minister, cohosted the 27th Economic and Technical Cooperation Conference July 2 in Taipei City, underscoring the two sides’ commitment to advancing sustainable partnership.
Discussions centered on digital transformation, science parks and talent cultivation, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
In his remarks, Kuo noted that Taiwan assisted its African ally with standard operating procedure optimization at the Royal Science and Technology Park in central Eswatini, adding that the country will also provide digital commerce support as part of efforts to enhance the local employment rate.
In response, Gina said that this year Eswatini’s economic growth is forecast to reach 7.9 percent thanks to domestic public-private investment and major infrastructure projects. He attributed part of that growth to Taiwan’s investment in the textile industry, which has created substantial job opportunities.
Additionally, Gina expressed his gratitude to Taiwan for its assistance in creating the Buy Eswatini mobile shopping application, adding that he is hopeful the platform will help promote the country’s products on a global scale.
Taiwan and Eswatini have enjoyed stable trade ties since a bilateral economic cooperation agreement took effect in 2018. Reciprocal trade volume grew by 8 percent from 2017 to 2024, while exports to the African country increased by 7.5 percent, the MOEA said.
