Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim said that Taiwan is committed to expanding its scientific prowess and working with international community members to contribute further to global technology development.
Hsiao made the remarks while attending an innovation summit organized by U.S.-based Amazon Web Services, Inc. May 21 in Taipei City. The two-day event featured discussions that spanned aerospace technology, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and robotics.
According to the vice president, the fields have a key role to play in Taiwan’s industrial development, and the event offered deeper insights into relevant global trends. She added that AWS is an important partner to Taiwan that is involved in the implementation of President Lai Ching-te’s Five Trusted Industry Sectors initiative, as laid out in his inauguration speech last year.
Taiwan is also working closely with AWS on smart manufacturing, talent cultivation and computing power development, Hsiao said, adding that the U.S. company is assisting domestic enterprises with the creation of strategies for digital innovations, boosting growth of sectors like unmanned vehicles and low-orbit satellites, and accelerating their expansion in the global market.
Connections with the world are crucial to Taiwan’s continued survival and development, Hsiao said. She expressed appreciation for international firms that invest in Taiwan, adding that by leveraging Taiwan’s manufacturing capabilities and U.S. innovations, the country will continue to put forth its utmost effort to advance global science and technology development.
