Minister Huang Yen-nun of the Ministry of Digital Affairs led a delegation to southern Taiwan’s Kaohsiung City to gain insight into local government and industries’ applications of 5G network technology.
According to the MODA, Huang first called in at a venue established by Taiwan Mobile to provide smart vehicle fleet management, as well as a place to charge electric cars. The delegation saw a demonstration of the company’s internet of things platform that can analyze driving data in real time and issue warnings for abnormalities.
The group also went to Evergreen Marine Corp’s Terminal 7 at the Port of Kaohsiung. The facility boasts a corporate 5G network set up by Chunghwa Telecom Co. to facilitate remote and automated operations, and is the first smart container site in Taiwan to integrate 5G technology, the MODA said, adding that this marks a major milestone in the domestic development of smart harbors.
The MODA emphasized that both locations visited by the minister and his delegation are excellent examples of academic-governmental-industrial collaboration in service of the promotion of digital transition. Huang pledged to expedite the incorporation of tools like artificial intelligence and to encourage industries to upgrade supply chains.
