2025/03/24
The Ministry of Education’s Sports Administration will kick off the first of five forums in its Sport Event Taiwan Workshop series March 27 in Taipei City as part of government efforts to enhance Taiwan’s credentials as a host country for major international sporting events.
The forum series began in 2021 to promote benchmark learning and facilitate exchanges between local event organizers and their global counterparts.
According to the SA, the forum will be staged on the sidelines of TaiSPO, the country’s premier sports and fitness business-to-business expo, set for March 26-29 in Taipei. It will feature keynote speeches, experience sharing sessions and panel discussions.
Key speakers and panelists include Liu Po-chun, Taiwan’s first female baseball umpire and the country’s sports ambassador-at-large; Munehiko Harada, chair of the Japan Sport Tourism Alliance; Rut Jiroajvanichakorn, president of the Thai Mass Participation Sports Trade Association; Li Neo Tay, co-founder and director of operations of Malaysia’s IGNIX Group; and João de Saldanha, CEO of the U.K.’s One Hundred Group Ltd.
During the event, a memorandum of understanding on expanding cooperation and exchanges will be signed by the Fun Sports in Taiwan project, ASPN Sports Tech Accelerator of Taiwan, South Korea-based Asian Association for Sport Management, JSTA and TMPSA.
Formulating a Taiwan brand for hosting global sporting events is a key component of President Lai Ching-te’s policy platform. In accordance with the president’s inauguration day pledge May 20, 2024, a sports ministry will be established in August this year, the SA said.
