A forum on introducing artificial intelligence into teacher training courses was held Jan. 15-16 at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei City with support from the Ministry of Education.
According to the ministry, the workshop was jointly planned by NTNU professors Chen Pei-ying, Liou Show-mann and Chen Hung-chang, as well as a team from NTNU-affiliated educational group Uniuni Studio. In response to rapid changes in the academic landscape amid evolving digital technology, the event aimed to help teacher education programs explore integrating AI into curriculums.
The first day centered on applying AI in foundational education courses, with participants learning how to leverage digital tools such as NotebookLM and Gemini in designing teaching materials, conducting literature analyses and carrying out research. Additionally, case studies were shared to promote understanding of how AI can foster innovative curriculums and enhance teaching efficiency.
Discussions on the second day focused on incorporating digital technologies into educational internship courses. Case studies were again examined to provide insight into how AI can improve course design and teaching evaluation.
During the conference, academics also discussed ethical challenges and limitations posed by AI while exchanging views on responsibly implementing digital education.
The MOE expressed hope that equipping future educators with digital skills will help them better capture student interest, improve learning outcomes and stimulate creativity.
