Taiwan tech startups attend 2025 CES

2025/01/17

The Ministry of Economic Affairs led a delegation of technology startup representatives and research teams to attend the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show Jan. 8-11 in Las Vegas, underscoring the government’s dedication to assisting domestic firms’ expansion into the global market.

According to the MOEA, a total of 11 startups in areas spanning medical technology, quantum computing, semiconductors and space technology took part. During the four-day event, attendees established multiple cooperative relationships valued at NT$ 400 million (US$12.14 billion) in business opportunities and had the chance to explore international business development at Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley.

Among the MOEA-supported companies, Taipei City-headquartered Jmem Tek, a provider of silicon intellectual property and chip design services, is the first Taiwan business to be selected to join Silicon Catalyst, the largest semiconductor accelerator in the U.S. Jmem Tek’s participation in the incubation program has enabled it to successfully recruit professionals from the U.S. while raising US$5 million in capital.

Similarly, New Taipei City-based Tensor Tech, which previously specialized in microsatellites under 50 kilograms, landed orders from U.S. customers for 200-kilogram satellites during the visit, the MOEA added.

Equally important, academic research teams backed by the ministry also secured collaboration with large-scale overseas companies, the ministry said, adding that a biomedicine group from the Hsinchu County-headquartered Industrial Technology Research Institute in northern Taiwan has announced that it will found a corporation with Singapore’s RMT group.

The ministry is leaving no stone unturned in expanding Taiwan’s technological reach by tapping into the Silicon Valley ecosystem. Following the close of CES, the delegation took part Jan. 14 in Taiwan Demo Day, organized by the MOEA and Cabinet-level National Development Council, which was attended by U.S. tech startup experts and investors.
