2025/01/03

A new set of guidelines to achieve a smart country is to be launched in the first half of 2025, underscoring the government’s commitment to forging a digitalized society.

According to Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun, who hosted the Executive Yuan smart country promotion team fifth meeting Dec. 31 in Taipei City, a new blueprint has been set for 2025-2028, which will restructure   supply chains and implement digital transformation and net-zero transition as well as tackle the challenges of a super-aged society.

Cheng anticipated that the new guidelines would propel an innovative economy and lead toward a sustainable society where technology is leveraged to improve public welfare.

One of the core concepts of President Lai Ching-te’s National Project of Hope is the pursuit of economic growth through innovative technology, Cheng said, adding that Premier Cho Jung-tai’s administrative goal is also to develop an innovative economy and a smart country.

Major implementation policies include active development of the five trusted industries, namely, artificial intelligence, defense, next generation communications, semiconductors and security. The country is committed to working with like-minded partners to collaboratively establish a democratic supply chain, the vice premier added.

Key to the new guidelines is research on advanced technology and construction of major digital infrastructure, Cheng said. She added that  innovation should also meet demands in care services, climate adaptation, disaster prevention, education, financial technology, net-zero emissions and transportation.

The vice premier concluded by committing to government support of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises to facilitate inclusive economic growth and creative solutions.
