Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim Nov. 25 expressed hope of integrating the domestic legal services sector with the international market to promote global rule of law.
Hsiao made the remarks while attending the “Globalising Your Practice: Opportunities & Challenges” seminar organized by the Taiwan Bar Association in Taipei City.
Speaking at the event, the vice president congratulated the TWBA on officially joining the International Bar Association in May, marking a milestone in Taiwan’s legal industry and global participation. As an IBA member, the country can freely exchange knowledge and experience while helping advance human rights and the rule of law, she said, adding that Taiwan cherishes every opportunity to fully engage in international organizations.
According to Hsiao, the legal profession plays a vital role in preserving global peace and stability amid developments such as artificial intelligence, which has prompted a need to create a legal environment that both encourages innovation and protects privacy, property and national security. She emphasized that the country proactively seeks cooperation with global bodies to forge the most effective governance and oversight framework possible.
Taiwan is a reliable member of the international community and stands ready to shoulder even greater responsibility to address legal challenges stemming from industry transition and evolving technology while safeguarding universal values, the vice president concluded.
